This week we’re sharing the inspirational story of one of my favorite humans, Julie Wojno-Ohlemacher! Check out her background, day in her life, struggles and more below!
About me and what I do:I am a body positive, intuitive eating health coach, as well as a transformational mindset coach. It’s a mouthful, right? Ok so what does this mean? It means that I coach women, both 1:1 and in groups, to say goodbye to diets and hello to their dream life. I teach women how to listen to and trust their bodies. I empower women to shift the way they relate to themselves, their bodies, food, exercise, others and the world. When we’re free from the stress and distraction of food/body/exercise, we are able to fully live and create life of our dreams. This includes deep, powerful mindset work. I am trained in the transformational coaching method, which is based in the science of neurolinguistic programming. This means we get to dive into some of your subconscious beliefs that have created your current programming (aka way you see yourself/world and therefore the way you live) so that we can call out those limiting beliefs that keep you stuck and upgrade them into intentional, empowering beliefs that unlock your full potential.
How did you get started? What struggles have you had?
This all started back in college circa 2012, but it didn’t actually manifest until 2017. In college is when I hit my rock bottom with my own relationship to myself/body/food/exercise. I was never clinically diagnosed with an eating disorder, but I would binge and purge, I had very strict rules, I’d monitor every calorie I ate, I’d workout daily until X amount of food was burned off… it was pretty bad. All the while, of course, I worked to create this persona of this confident, healthy, fit perfect person to the outside world. HAH! I was anything but. I remember as I overcame this struggle that I want to help women who struggled like I did. I had no idea HOW to do that. But I knew it was what I was born to do. I knew it’s why I went through what I did. I ended up going to grad school at OSU to study body image, did a detour in public health, and then, finally, in 2016 when I started to hear about “health coaches,” it became clear: this was what I’m meant to do. So, I got certified through the Health Coach Institute and the rest is history!
What does a day in your working life look like?
A day in my working life looks like coaching calls with my amazing clients, writing content for my instagram/weekly emails, supporting the amazing women in my group program(s), teaching cycling at Cycle614 and Yoga at Lit and Studio543… my days also ALWAYS include a walk or park date with my fluffy, instafamous Bernese Mountain Dog, Maple, as well as daily meditation and calls with my own coach!! When I’m not on coaching calls, you can find me working at Mission Coffee or Haven Collective =)
What advice would you give someone interested in this field?
I’d say hire a coach. Truly. If you want to become a coach, ya need your own coach. Being successful as a coach, if you ask me, is an ongoing journey of personal growth. It’s a journey of connecting and aligning with your purpose and passion over and over and over again. It’s more about the inner transformational work of calling out your limiting belies and upgrading them so that you are creating the life you want to live. So that you can make the impact you desire. Sure, the outter work, the “stuff” like writing instagram content or hosting workshops, or whatever, is important. But it’s more an inner game than anything else. Plus, it not only helps you grow, but it helps you be a better coach for your clients.
Anything else we should know?
At any chance I get, I want to tell people that we get to co-create the life we desire to live with the universe. When we wake up to this truth, we get to live an empowered life rather than being stuck as a victim of circumstance. Study the Law of Attraction. What we focus on we create. Oh, and when it comes to body positivity? My two fave books I’d recommend are Body Positive Power and Body Respect. They’ll rock your world.
