Today, we're meeting Cindy Switzer-Dempsey with Vessel Collective & Mom Prom Cincy!
 

Tell us about you and your background! 

I have a degree in interior architecture and design & a minor in photography from Mount St. Joe University! I worked at the Cincinnati Design center for 7 years after I graduated college!  I have always loved all forms of design, Interior, Fashion, Graphics, Floral, Event Design- you name it, I love it! Anything that allows me to be creative is my happy place. I am a mom of 3 boys under the age of 4 and Married to my hubby for almost 7 years. I had all 3 of my babies during the pandemic, which is really what inspired the whole idea behind Vessel & Mom Prom! 

 

Tell us about your business and why you started it! 

When I had all 3 of my babies in 2 years and during the height of covid, it was incredibly isolating. Most of my friends were already moms. So, if I didn’t already have a group of mom friends I feel like it would have been a much darker period because of the isolation and all the postpartum hormones and such! I guess becoming a mom is really what was my driving force behind Vessel. Seeing the lack of resources that women are offered during their pregnancies and postpartum journeys. Then,  just even as women and mothers, how much pressure society puts on us to be everybody's everything all the time. I wanted there to be a space where I could provide women with resources to support them and also give them a space to feel comfortable and accepted, just how they are. A place where they could come and get a break from their everyday life, even if just for a few hours. To provide them with fun things to look forward to and to help them realize that they are just as important as all the people that they are taking care of. As moms, we are the last ones to fill our cups, we have a hard time investing in ourselves, the mom guilt is real. So, providing women with a space where they can gather with other like-minded women and bond and create new female relationships is really what Vessel is all about! 

What do you love about being a business owner? 

I love that I get to have this incredible business where I can connect with so many other amazing women and moms, but still have the flexibility to be present for my own family. 

What advice would you give yourself from 5 years ago OR your past self just starting your business?  

To Leap. It’s scary, but there is something really beautiful waiting for you when you do finally take the leap. And I am so thankful that I didn’t let my fear hold me back and that I did take the leap. 

What does BEAUTY mean to you? 

I used to think growing up that beauty was the surface, everything you could see on the outside. But, now I know that beauty is our stories as women. The things and experiences that have made us who we are. The hardships we have been through and the growth that comes from that. The work that we have done on ourselves to help us accept and love ourselves just as we are. I think that self-love is BEAUTY. 

Who or what inspires you? 

My own Mom, she always put me first, but she always knew how to have a good time and find balance in taking care of herself as well. All of my incredible female friends who have become my chosen family and all of the amazing women that walk through the doors at Vessel. 

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know? 

That being a woman is hard, and you cannot pour from an empty cup. As cliche as that might sound, it’s a truth that I have had to accept in my own motherhood journey. You cannot be everything for everyone all of the time. Your community is so important, lean on them, don't be afraid to ask for help or support. If I can create a place where women can lift each other up, and feel safe and comfortable and have this be a place that they look forward to coming to, then I have succeeded!
