Today, we are meeting Dani Austin, content creator and founder of Divi!

Tell us about you and your background!

Hi there! I'm Dani Austin, juggling multiple roles as a mom, wife, business owner, creative content creator, and entrepreneur. I have deep roots in Texas, having grown up in a suburb just outside of Dallas. My content creation journey took off in 2012 when I started making YouTube videos in my dorm room at the University of Texas.

Fast forward to 2018, I married my amazing husband, Jordan. We welcomed our first baby girl, Stella, in 2020, followed by Stratton 17 months later. Since then, our lives have been a whirlwind, but our absolute favorite thing to do is create content together with our families!

Tell us about your business & why you started it

Divi’s mission is to put the care back in hair care with empathy, science and innovation at the heart of all we do. I founded Divi in 2021, after my personal encounter with hair loss and thinning.

During my college years, stress led me to compulsively pull out my hair, resulting in pretty extreme hair loss. Throughout this period, I struggled to find solutions and support. Frustrated with temporary “band-aid” fixes, I decided it was time to get to the root of my hair loss. I devoted countless hours to researching how environmental factors, stress, and scalp health impact hair. Eventually, in my own bathroom, I concocted a serum from raw materials and other ingredients that genuinely improved my scalp and overall hair wellness.

Teaming up with scientists to refine the formulation into what is now the Divi Scalp Serum, I launched both the serum and the Divi brand to help others along their own hair journeys. 

What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet and/or who use Divi? 

My favorite part of being a business owner is meeting new people and hearing their stories. After feeling so alone in my hair loss journey, I love that Divi is a safe space for people to find community, share their experiences and grow in their confidence together. Whenever we have events or I’m out and about and people come up to me to share how Divi has changed their lives and grown their confidence, I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. My hope is that Divi always continues to impact people in this way—providing a support network and helping people find confidence no matter where they are in their hair journey.

What advice would you give to yourself from 5 years ago? OR your past self just starting your business?

Five years ago I wish I knew that I wasn’t the only person experiencing hair loss and thinning. I would tell myself that there are thousands of others going through the same thing and that I have the potential to bring awareness to this issue and help create solutions and support. Knowing what I know now and with the existence of Divi, this would have helped me find light in the situation. They say that after rain comes the rainbow, and that has been so true with my emotional walk through hair loss.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

For me, beauty and confidence are so intricately linked. I’ve learned that no matter how I look, feeling confident and comfortable in my skin is when I feel most beautiful and when inner beauty can shine most brightly.

Who or what inspires you?

In addition to Divi’s incredible community—men, women, old, young, moms, daughters—it is my family who truly inspires me. My parents, my husband, my kids—everything I do is because of them and for them. They have been my support system through it all and inspire me every day to keep going to make them proud, to serve them and to set an example of hard work, compassion and joy for my kiddos.
