HER STORY ⟡ Jackie Burtch
Today we are meeting Jackie Burtch, founder of Burtch Designs!
Why I started:
I’m Jackie Burtch, founder and creative director of Burtch Designs. I started my business in 2019 with the birth of my son, Myles. I had been in the corporate design world for almost a decade and after transitioning to a part-time role, with the opportunity to take on freelance design clients, I quickly discovered that freelance was providing the variety in creativity I had been looking for. I help creative entrepreneurs craft the brand (& website) of their dreams through strategic and intentional design. I enjoy supporting my clients at each step of their entrepreneurial journey. We begin with a strategy workshop to get to know your ideal customer because understanding that group helps you talk to them more specifically and purposefully. I of course design you a logo, but also include a few variations, like a secondary logo and a brand mark, because it’s never one size fits all! I also provide guidelines for your brand to move forward, which include colors, typography, email signature, business cards, and social media graphics. Lastly, we work through website strategy, platforms, and imagery to best suit your brand and serve your clients. I’ve found this process, whether you're new to business or considering a rebrand, sets your business up for success!
What I love about being a business owner:
I love collaborating and connecting with other entrepreneurs and moms! I’ve met so many amazing women along this journey and have had the chance to support quite a few moms in starting (or rebranding) their business. When you become a client, you get a lifelong cheerleader in addition to a designer! Of course I also love the creative freedom and space to play and work on my own schedule.
What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet and/or who purchase your products?
I hope I can inspire other women to have confidence in their business and themselves. It’s so important to show up online and take up space - and I want to help others confidently own their little space on the internet with beautiful branding!
Who or what inspires you?
I've always had a passion for color and design, but after my first typography course in college, I fell in love with letterforms and layout. With a natural eye for detail, it’s the little things that inspire me—hence the love of typography. Staying inspired can be hard though. I pull inspiration and motivation from other designers and fellow entrepreneurs in my community.
What is your favorite quote?
“Design is the silent ambassador of your brand” - Paul Rand (graphic designer, famously known for the IBM logo)
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
Obviously, I could talk about beautiful design work but to think about beauty on its own is a bigger concept in my mind – Beauty means compassion and to me, it’s more about connection and shared human experience that brings beauty in to our lives.
What advice would you give your past self just starting your business?
Find community! I thought my friends & family would be my biggest supporters in this journey, but it’s been the community that I’ve built slowly over the last few years that I find the greatest connection and support from.
