HER STORY ⟡ Julia Nauer
Hi, I’m Julia Nauer, a personal stylist & owner of Sort & Style. Sort & Style offers closet editing, personal styling, and personal shopping services both in-person and virtually. My mission is to help you simplify your closet, your style, and the way you shop to help you get dressed confidently everyday. I work with many women who have just gone through some sort of transition in their lives (new baby, move, retirement, new job, break-up) and they need their wardrobe to keep up! That’s where I come in. I help you make sense of how you want to look, what’s currently in your closet, and your lifestyle to figure out which pieces you need in your closet and how to put them all together.
When I’m not thinking about clothes - you can find me bingeing a new tv show with my husband, trying new restaurants around Baltimore, or at Core Power Yoga!
Why I started:
I’ve been a life long lover of clothes & accessories. Some of my earliest memories are playing dress up with my grandma’s scraps of fabric leftover from her sewing machine. From the time I was in middle school I’ve loved the way clothing can help you transform and communicate your identity without you ever opening your mouth. I want to help people harness that power to communicate their message and who they are exactly as they intend. I started my career as a women’s apparel buyer and worked at global brands and smaller boutiques for over a decade before beginning Sort & Style. Over this time I witnessed a lot of women who bought too much or bought items that they didn’t really need or weren’t their style. It all added up to the feeling of having a ton of clothes, but nothing to wear. And at times I was that person too! But during the pandemic I edited my closet and got really clear on who I was from a personal style perspective. I also had to start really prioritizing my purchases due to a pandemic pay cut. It was during this time that I decided I wanted to start Sort & Style as a way to help women shop more thoughtfully so that getting dressed would feel more authentic and easier for them every day.
What I love about being a Business Owner:
I love meeting new clients! Everyone is so unique and has their own set of challenges when getting dressed. I love helping to strategize solutions for them. There is no one size fits all solution when it comes to your wardrobe, it’s personal! So that’s why working with a personal stylist can be so beneficial. I can help you identify solutions that are uniquely you!
Who or What Inspires you:
I love trends of all kinds & pop culture! I love that life keeps changing and I think it’s exciting to see what’s coming next! I’m energized by what’s new. The love of trends is something I need to temper a bit with regards to shopping, but I think I’ve almost mastered it :)
Piece of Advice or Favorite Quote:
I don’t know where this came from, but my mantra is “If you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.” It reminds me that I need to continuously get out of my comfort zone in order to reach my goals!
