HER STORY ⟡ Meredith Baker

Hi! I am Meredith Baker and I am the founder and operator of Skinlogic. I am a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner. I started in aesthetics in 2019 and have not looked back. I started Skinlogic at the end of 2021 and was working out of my home office. December of this year I moved into a brick and mortar and I couldn’t be more excited.  Skinlogic is a boutique medical spa located in Severna Park, MD offering a variety of services and skincare products. I have two VERY energetic boys that keep me busy when I am not working.

Why I started:
I had worked as a nurse in pediatric acute care starting in 2010 and then transitioned as an NP in Pediatric Neurocritical Care in 2016. I loved my pediatric career, but I found the need to get into elective medicine. I shadowed a plastic surgeon and fell in love with medical aesthetics. I started working part-time in 2019 and my focus was on injectables and chemical peels. As time progressed, I found a passion for daily skincare and wanted to create a business that emphasized the importance of a daily regimen for anti-aging. I took  the plunge at the end of 2021 and quit my full-time hospital job and started Skinlogic.

What I love about being a business owner:
I love the ability to have control over the products I use for each service. It allows me to be fully invested in my services and know that treatment is based on research. I also love the ability to be able to be with my family more often. Leaving for the hospital at 5am and getting home at 7pm left little room for the simplest things like breakfast and dinner with my kids on the days that I worked.

What is your favorite piece of advice you've ever received or favorite quote?
“What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?”  Fear is paralyzing and my biggest fear has always been failing. I love this quote because I always think of falling. You can’t fall or fly if you don’t try. When I doubt myself in this business, this quote helps me to push past the limitations I put on myself.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?
Beauty to me is loving yourself with all the good and the bad that comes with you. It is also the ability to feel confident in and proud of whatever self-care means to you specifically. It takes on different forms for everyone.

What advice would you give your past self just starting your business?
Slammed doors only mean you’re learning and getting stronger.

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?
