Today, we're meeting Dr. Mona Mislanka with Cincinnati Skin Center!
Tell us about you and your background!
I am an Ohio native and am so excited to be practicing in Cincinnati. I was born and raised in Ohio and lived all over the state due to my medical training. I started at the Ohio State University, then came to the University of Cincinnati for medical school, and even did my internship year in Cleveland. I also lived in Florida during my dermatology training until I eventually settled down here in Cincinnati. After working at my last job for seven years, I knew it was finally time for me to open my own practice so that I could better serve the patients of Cincinnati in a model that centers around the patient first.
I currently reside in Mason, Ohio with my husband, two toddler boys, and our dog Zeke. Of all of the titles that I own – wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend, business owner, dermatologist, skincare founder and owner – mom is my absolute favorite. Our family are avid Bengal’s fans (WHO DEY) and are so proud to be contributing back to this amazing community.
Tell us about your business and why you started it!
At Cincinnati Skin Center (CSC), my mission is to deliver unparalleled dermatological expertise with a steadfast commitment to patient-centered care. I felt that it was important to create a space where patients felt heard and seen, while being confident that they were getting the medical care that they deserved. At CSC, I wanted our patients to be assured that with our medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologic experience, you and your family will not only experience the highest quality of service but it will be rooted in compassion, integrity, and innovation. Through personalized treatments and a comprehensive approach, we aim to empower our patients and their families to achieve their best skin health and confidence. With a focus on medical expertise and compassion, we aspire to set the standard for exceptional dermatologic care to the greater Cincinnati area.
At Cincinnati Skin Center (CSC), I treat both pediatric and adult patients, and specializes in general, procedural, and cosmetic dermatology. My clinical interests include, but are not limited to, skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, acne, eczema, psoriasis, hair loss and laser treatments. I also perform cosmetic treatments including neurotoxins like Botox, filler, chemical peels, microneedling, platelet rich plasma, and non surgical hair restoration.
What do you love about being a business owner?
First and foremost, autonomy and creative freedom. I love having the freedom of making my own decisions about the practice and how I want to approach patient care and my wonderful staff. I am able to create a practice environment that reflects my personal values and vision entirely. Building long-term relationships with patients for personalized care and better treatment outcomes. Work life balance is also very important to myself and my staff as mothers who are actively involved in the community elsewhere. We are a team that believes in women supporting women, and therefore are so excited to collaborate with The Beauty Boost. I love directly contributing to the health and well-being of our Cincinnati community, educating our patients and inspiring them to put their health first. Innovation also plays a large role in the medical field – and as a practice owner, I am able to introduce new technology and techniques that enhance patient care and keep our practice at the forefront of dermatology.
What advice would you give yourself from 5 years ago OR your past self just starting your business?
If you love what you do, trust your instincts–take the plunge and trust that your expertise and knowledge will guide you the rest of the way. Focus on the things that are most important to you and in your control. Understand your model first and then delegate appropriately. Most importantly – surround yourself with a supportive team whether it is your family, friendships, staff or a combination of it all so that if and when you do waiver, your team can help lift you. One of my absolute favorite quotes is “surround yourself with women that would mention your name in a room full of opportunities”. Surround yourself with these people, and make sure that you reciprocate it as well.
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
To me, beauty encompasses so much more than just the physical nature of the word, it is a feeling. It is about a sense of authenticity, confidence, and connection. It is about feeling good about yourself and feeling comfortable in your own skin and perceived imperfections. As a dermatologist, it is one of my utmost privileges to help my patients feel beautiful while providing them with the up to date guidelines and procedures while allowing them to recognize that it does not always entail having to change their physical appearance.
Who or what inspires you?
My family and community inspires me. I work hard daily for myself and for them, to show them that with the right amount of support and dedication, it is possible to juggle many things at once, even starting and owning a practice. I have several mentors and colleagues that have started similar businesses before me and they are a large part of my professional development.
