Hi, I’m Kim Powers, owner of Leeta Ruth!
Tell us about you:
I am a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend, a yogi, an entrepreneur, a connector, and a creative. I have two children, Lucas (14) and Mallory (10). I had a background in athletics as a collegiate diver for Stanford and then transitioned into that world after college, spending 11 years working in academic support and eligibility with the student-athletes at Xavier University. I then chose to stay at home with my two young children for two years before opening Leeta Ruth Boutique in 2016. I now love nothing more than connecting with and celebrating other women, using clothing as a means to empower.
Tell us about Leeta Ruth:
Leeta Ruth is a women’s clothing boutique, personal styling resource, and small event venue in the river town of Ludlow, KY. It is named after my maternal grandmother Ruth, and my paternal great grandmother Leeta. Both women were artistic and stylish and inspired both the idea for and the atmosphere of the boutique. At Leeta Ruth, we believe in the power of women in community. We believe in elevating women’s authentic voices and magnifying their energy. And we believe that building a fun and functional wardrobe is an integral part of personal empowerment!
What type of impact do you hope to have on those that you meet/speak to:
I had to go through my own personal journey to feel comfortable in my body, see my beauty and develop my own self worth. My mission now is to encourage women to see their own beauty and tap into their own energy and power, largely through the vehicle of clothing. This mission is also why I started the "Be Here, by Leeta Ruth" event series. To provide women with opportunities to just be, to go within, and to take time for themselves.
What advice would you give to yourself from 5 years ago:
I would tell myself to listen to my intuition and allow the business to grow in the direction that most accurately reflects my passions and energies. Allowing the business to be an extension of myself and my own personal growth and how I feel I can best be of service to others. Then trusting!
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
Beauty to me is an energy and it's something that radiates from a woman. We all know that glow and it has to start from the inside. Then I think it's a question of matching up her outside with her inside and I think playing with clothing is a way to do that!
