Let’s get inspired by Monica of Rollin’ Bowls, the area’s first all-plant-based food truck (it’s a bus)!
How’d it all start?
My life was rollin’ along just fine as a Program Coordinator for a community college when I came across the health documentary Forks Over Knives. The title literally means “how to use your fork to avoid going under the scalpel” aka disease prevention. Working out and cooking had always been passions, but this film changed everything. After watching it, I decided to take a 6-week challenge, eating only plant-based foods. My energy increased, weight dropped, arthritis started subsiding, cholesterol fell and I was convinced. That was 7 years ago. After a couple years having a hard time finding crave-worthy fast food, I took it upon myself to “change the perception of plant-based food, one bowl at a time”!
What’s on the menu?
It was August 2018 when I officially started Rollin’ Bowls! For a while before I bought the bus, I would test recipes with family/friends, at farmer’s markets and festivals, then tweak those recipes based on feedback. I avoided ingredients that were synonymous with boring vegan food like hummus and bland salads and focused on hearty, creamy, fresh, crunchy, umami textures and tastes. My cuisine is a fusion of comfort food from around the world with plant-only ingredients. Dynamite Bowls, Caesar Wraps, BBQ Slaw Sammies, Thai Curry, Pasta Fagioli, Walking Taco Bowls, Spiced Nuts and Curried Chik’n Salad are some fan favorites. And I customize my menu to the event each time out.
How can others partner with you?
We’ve served corporate functions with thousands of attendees, in-home catering for ten people, weddings of 100+ and everything in between! We can popup inside almost any venue, or serve from our bus! We love the mutual benefit of collaborating with community. Just let us know your vision, we’d be happy to brainstorm.
