HER STORY ⟡ Diane Appleberry

Today, we are meeting Diane Appleberry!

Why I Started:

I originally graduated with a degree in Finance from Miami University. Within a few years of working in the industry, I realized Finance was not my passion and made a career change into nursing. My mother is a physician and it was clear to me that medicine runs in my blood. I obtained my Masters in Nursing and worked at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for 8 years. During that time, I obtained my Nurse Practitioner’s license in 2019.  While I was working at Children’s, my mother opened up Grace & Glam Medical Spa. The aesthetic industry always fascinated me, and once I gave birth to my third boy in three years, decided it was time to strike a better work-life balance by pursuing my passion of being a provider at Grace & Glam.

What I love about being a business owner:

The motivation I have for succeeding. Owning a business brings about such different challenges I would never have encountered had I stayed in the hospital setting. There are so many stressors that arise from running a business, but overcoming and pivoting around those obstacles makes for both personal and professional growth.

What type of impact do you hope to have on those you meet and/or who receive your services:

Working at the spa over the last year and a half has given me so much joy! I love making people feel empowered and confident in their skin. The goal is never to look like you’ve had treatments done. The goal is to make you look the age you feel.

Who or what inspires you?

My mother, hands down! She opened up this medical spa with zero business knowledge on how to do so, did next to no marketing and has grown it simply by word of mouth. On top of that, she’s the kindest, warmest human on the planet. If you’ve ever met a person that just strikes you as a genuine good soul, you understand how people feel about my mother.

What is your favorite piece of advice you’ve ever received or favorite quote?

“Your vibe attracts your tribe.” I love this piece of advice because it means the energy, the positivity and the attitude you put forth is going to bring like-minded individuals. We have the best clients, and I believe it’s because we treat them how we would want to be treated.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

I believe that beauty = confidence. There is nothing more beautiful that a person feeling empowered in their own skin. That is the goal of Grace & Glam, to give people a little more confidence to take on this world.

What advice would you give your past self just starting out in your business?

Train, train, train. There’s never a seminar/webinar/hands-on training/conference I want to turn down. This is such a fast moving industry with constant new technology and information, and you have to stay current in order to be the best and safest provider for your patients.

What would you like our Beauty Boost members to know?

Getting new things done to your face is scary and somewhat intimidating! Coming into our spa is like going to see a good friend- comfortable and inviting. Our motto is less is more! Looking natural but refreshed is our ultimate goal!
