HER STORY ⟡ Hannah Smith

Today, we are meeting Hannah Smith, Owner and Therapist at Hannah Smith Counseling!

Tell us about you and your background!

I am a clinical social worker with over eleven years of experience as a clinician. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, I began my career working in non-profits in Cincinnati and the surrounding areas, before starting my own practice.

Tell us about your business and why you started it!

My therapy practice focuses on serving women and mothers in periods of life transition. I began my business after getting Perinatal Mental Health Certified and realizing how important it is for women to have care and support, when they are so often societally-conditioned to blame themselves when they are hurting or suffering.

What do you love about being a business owner?

The flexibility! I love being able to serve my clients in the way that meets their needs, as well as having flexibility for my own family and schedule.

What type of impact do you hope to make on those you meet and/or who receive your services?

For clients who work with me, I hope they become empowered to make changes and set boundaries in a way that works for them, as well as treat themselves with care and compassion.

What advice would you give yourself from 5 years ago OR your past self just starting your business?

If I were talking to myself from five years ago (right after I became a mother), I would remind myself that every stage is temporary, both the good and the bad.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

To me, beauty is the way we treat and honor ourselves and others. The boundaries we set and relationships we hold speak highly of the beauty inside of us.

Who or what inspires you?

Female entrepreneurs! I think it is pretty incredible how women continue to prioritize their own dreams and needs, and take risks to allow them to provide for themselves and their families.

Anything else you would like to share!
