Today, we are meeting Kasey Johansen, Owner & Founder of KC Consulting!
Tell us about you and your background!
Hi Ladies! Here are the hits: I am a Columbus native, wife, mother of three (a special needs mom), trained opera singer, Miss Ohio contestant, philanthropist, and business owner. While living in Washington, D.C. for 6 years, I started my first personal styling business, Style by Kasey. I helped women work through their wardrobe therapy and find their authentic self and style. My husband, myself, and three babies moved to Cincinnati, where I established our family, styled people on the side, and worked on ME! I took time to figure out what I wanted, and who I was outside of someone’s mom and someone’s wife.
For the last few years, I styled and prepared state contestants for the Miss America stage. While it was wonderful to mentor young, impressive females for their future, it wasn’t MY forever. In 2023, I proudly rebranded and relaunched myself bigger and better than before as KC Consulting: Personal Branding Consultant, Image Consultant, and Personal Stylist.
Tell us about your business and why you started it!
A personal stylist is not a luxury reserved for the rich and famous, every woman deserves to look and feel their best. My goal is to empower women by helping them establish a strong sense of self, develop their personal brand, and curate a wardrobe that algins with their values, personality, and ambitions.
It’s simple! In three steps, you’ll find your “Signature Style”: 1) Closet Cleanout: We take everything out of your closet, and sort into: keep, tailor, and donate. 2) Personal Shopper: We will work together to find clothing that complements your existing wardrobe, and pieces that fit your unique, body, and style. 3) The Edit: We combine your existing wardrobe with your new wardrobe and style it all together (including a mini hair, make-up, and walking lesson. Throughout this process, I will help you understand your body, what works best for you, and give you the tools to make future shopping trips enjoyable and successful.
Women tend to put their needs last, I say invest in quality, invest in yourself! I can style you from Goodwill to Bergdorf Goodman, I guide my clients to find their elevated, authentic self. If you feel confident and powerful, you’re likely to be more successful and confident in your day-to-day life. I have two goals for my clients: that they feel more authentic and confident than when we started and that they won’t need me by their side anymore. I give you the tips, tricks, and tools to be your true, unique, and empowered self.
What do you love about being a business owner?
My mom always said, “treat others as you wish to be treated,” and that’s exactly what I get to do with my own business. I am able to customize my services to each individual, giving them the same personal care and respect that I would want for myself. I hope to leave a positive impact with KC Consulting.
What type of impact do you hope to make on those you meet and/or who receive your services?
You should feel inspired and confident when they leave my me. I am a step in their journey to living their full potential and best and most confident version of themselves.
What advice would you give yourself from 5 years ago OR your past self just starting your business?
You are here for an education in business, the world, and yourself. You will realize you are stronger than you ever thought you were. You will be a different person to five years than the person that is starting this business now. Give yourself flexibility and permission to make mistakes, fail, and to succeed, because all those things will happen, more than once! Do not let imposter syndrome creep in, be your own biggest cheerleader, and remember why you started this. Get up, get dressed, you got this!
What does BEAUTY mean to you?
A feeling is beautiful; the way someone makes you feel, the way you feel about yourself, and the way you make others feel. The love for each other and love for yourself is beautiful to me. What’s on the outside will never matter if you don’t address what’s on the inside first.
Who or what inspires you?
What kind of example do I want to lead for my kids inspires me to be: brave, honest, and kind. For my parents who raised me, my husband who makes me a better person, and my children who hold me relentlessly accountable, I’m inspired to be a better version of myself.
