HER STORY ⟡ Michelle Sperazz

Today we are meeting Michelle Sperazz!

Tell us about you!

From performing on stage to acting in commercials, I have always been around the makeup and the entertainment industry.  With an extensive background as a performer myself, I have a good eye and sense of perfection that is required for makeup and photography design.  My journey began with a love and passion for the performing arts that took me to New York City to pursue a career as an actor, singer and dancer. In between working as an actor, my interest in makeup and the magic that happens behind the scenes lead me to train with top artists in the industry.

I have my BFA in musical theatre from the University at Buffalo. I am a Certified Makeup Artist from the Makeup Designory School specializing in airbrush techniques, traditional makeup and am also a Licensed Esthetician.  I am experienced in all areas of makeup and have worked in various divisions of the business with a wide range of clientele including high profile talent in the media and bridal clients. In addition to my training in makeup design, I have worked with many talented photographers throughout the years and am trained in photography and lighting from the Peter Hurley Headshot Crew and several other photographers.  I have worked with numerous clients, offering my photography and makeup skills to create striking branding and headshot images as well as family and senior portraits.

I have freelanced as a makeup artist with sought-after cosmetic lines such as MAC, Chanel, Laura Mercier and Bobbie Brown cosmetics. I also trained and worked with celebrity makeup artist, Eve Pearl.  Some of my credits include The Today Show, Extra, Man vs. Food, Food Wars, Restaurant Impossible, 48 Hours, The National Latino Show, A Girl Named Guy-Health and Wellness Show, and Confessions of a Match Maker.  My work has been seen in publications such as Punk Rock Confidential, Solis Magazine, Baltimore Magazine, Syracuse Bridal Magazine, and Rochester Wedding Magazine. I have also worked with many advertising clients such as, The Seneca Casinos, New Era Cap, WebMD, Roswell Park, Hodgson Russ and Cellino and Barnes Law Firm.

Tell us about Michelle Sperazz Studios.

I have completed a transformative journey, encompassing my time as a performer and work behind the scenes in New York City.  Now, armed with a wealth of invaluable insights, I have returned to Buffalo, NY with a mission to empower fellow professionals in the performing arts.  My focus lies in equipping them with getting the images they need to stand out in front of casting directors and industry leaders.  I extend my expertise to encompass portraits for entrepreneurs, family, seniors and makeup design.

I have launched my own photography and makeup studio in the charming Village of Orchard Park.

Who or what inspires you?

Music, podcasts, family and faith.  Music has always been apart of my emotional outlet, podcasts like Mel Robins resonates with me, while family and faith keep me grounded and inspire me to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be.

What does BEAUTY mean to you?

Beauty is having self-confidence, kindness to others and oneself, self acceptance, standing proudly in one’s authentic identity and feeling fabulous inside like we do when we have our hair and makeup done!

What advice would you give your past self just starting your business?

Listen to your inner voice and persevere, regardless of other’s opinions.  You just never know what your life path is preparing you for, so keep on going!  The twists and turns are all part of the adventure.

What is your favorite piece of advice you've received or favorite quote?

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity” Roman Philosopher Seneca has always been a cherished quote of mine.  It serves as a constant reminder to work hard, sharpen one’s skills, continue to learn, and remain vigilant for chances that come your way. Luck in essence, materializes when you trust your instincts, construct a well-thought action plan and set achievable goals, then act upon them.  It’s about facing reality, displaying resilience, maintaining a positive outlook, manifesting your aspirations, and seeking the silver lining in every situation, even when the path takes unexpected turns. Embrace the belief that you are exactly where you are meant to be at each phase of your life.  Every experience offers valuable lessons, opportunities for personal growth, a chance to radiate love, and a means to assist others in their journeys.  I strongly believe that we encounter various individuals in our life, each with unique roles.  These encounters might serve as opportunities for learning, offering guidance, or igniting inspiration in others.  The direction our path takes can be unpredictable, but it’s essential to remain receptive to the universe and be attentive to the signs they may offer, as they can help lead us toward the path, our purpose we are destined to do in this lifetime.
